How to Find Your Ring Size

When it comes to buying a ring, you’ll need to know your ring size. Of course, if you’re buying a ring in store you’ll have the opportunity to try a few different rings on to see which one fits the best. However, if you’re buying online then you’ll need to know your exact ring size. Otherwise, how do you plan to purchase a ring that fits? A large amount of people don’t know how to find their ring size and many simply try to guess a size that will fit; this doesn’t work. It’s much better to take the time to correctly find your ring size. So, how is it done?

Finding Your Ring Size

There are a number of different sizes of ring to choose from, ranging from sizes around 3 all the way up to a size 18. Here’s how to find your ring size:

  • Place a piece of string around the base of your finger; it must not be stretchy. Then mark the point where the string overlaps and note down the length in inches. This length can then be converted into a ring size. For example, 2.9 inches is a size 15.
  • Using the same method as above, measure the circumference of a ring you already wear a lot. This will help you to find a ring with the same comfort and fit.

There are a lot of different sources of information online, showing how each finger measurement in inches translates into a ring size; it’s just a case of getting an accurate measurement in the first place. Try to avoid measuring your finger too tight or loose.

Incorrectly measuring your ring size could leave you with rings that don’t fit, rings that fit uncomfortably and a lot of hassle with returning items and buying replacements in a different size. That’s why it’s important to know how to find your ring size. All jewellers and companies that sell rings will use a standardised ring size chart. So, once you have found your ring size once you won’t need to do it every time you go to buy a new piece of jewellery, unless you’re planning to wear the specific ring on a different finger.
